The Austrian initiative Handywissen.at supports mobile phone users to use their mobiles safely and cost-effectively.
Handywissen.at is a partner project of Saferinternet.at, the Austrian awareness node for safe internet use on behalf of the EU Commission and public authorities.
Mobile phones can be considered as omnipresent and they have been developing from mobile telephones to multimedia devices. Extended features such as music and video players, mobile internet, direct data exchange between mobiles, cameras have become very popular. Apart from great benefits these developments also raise questions about potential risks of mobile phones.
For this reason Handywissen.at provides parents, teachers, kids, teenagers with tips and advice how to use the mobile phone safely and cost-effectively.
The Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (ÖIAT) is coordinator of Handywissen.at. The project ist carried out in co-operation with the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Ministry for Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection, the EU, mobilkom austria and NGOs.
ÖIAT is an independent non-proft organisation and is member of the association of cooperative research organisations (ACR).
